inSCRIBE Bengaluru 2019 | Eligibility

The candidate must know communicably good English, and should ideally have some kind of writing background (though that is not a pre-requisite). If you have written for a living, you are almost there. If you have written fiction or poetry, such work would not really give you an edge over other candidates; but we will surely factor those in.

INSCRIPTIONS does not believe in qualifications, but skillsets. Any academic qualification, therefore, is not a pre-requisite. But for this kind of workshop, a participant should ideally be a graduate with some amount of work experience. Journalism / media students are most welcome.

This is a mentorship programme, and hence participants should preferably be those in the, well, "younger" age bracket. Though this is not being writ in stone, an applicant should preferably be in the 21-29 age group.

Those with a non-journalistic background are particularly encouraged to apply. Also, those who have graduated or done post-graduation in journalism, mass communications or media studies will not be given any additional preferential treatment. As far as selection is concerned, your story ideas will matter more than your academic background.

This workshop is being conducted in Bengaluru, and candidates need to be from this city. The stories that the candidates will be working on need to be Bengaluru-centric, and so it would be in the interest of the candidate to be conversant with the city—the issues and the people. But if you think that you have story ideas that you can execute in spite of not being from this city, please do apply.

Selection of Participants

  • Go through all the sections of the inSCRIBE microsite.
  • Apply through this page. Ensure that your application includes three story ideas that you might want to pursue. You can chase any one or all of those, subject to approval by the Workshop Mentor. The story ideas would need to be rooted in Bengaluru.
  • Your application should also include three writing samples that would be relevant to the workshop.
  • Applications will be evaluated on basis of the story ideas, and two other sections on the application page: 'Why I want to participate in the workshop' and 'What I expect to take away from the workshop'.
  • If your application is approved, you will be intimated about the selection by EOD September 24.
  • You will have to pay the registration fee by due date. The payment details will be intimated to you only if you are selected. Failing to make the payment (without intimation) will mean that your selection would be cancelled, and the seat would be offered to someone else.
